Choose your launch route

Test a market fast

Start with finished catalog stock or a private label formula. Expect fewer choices on shape and coating.

Own the formula

Commission custom formulation. Budget for development, tooling and stability before the first run.

Special format

Chewable, effervescent or bilayer tablets need format-specific trials and packaging. Shortlist suppliers that name the format.

Supplier profiles

#1

Peakfinity Labs

Top pick for ecommerce tablet launches and scale-up coordination

Why it made the list: One company states it handles granulation, compression, coating and packing in its own facility, offers custom tooling, US client support and warehousing, and a qualified route from catalog stock to a custom formula on commercial terms. Fewer handoffs between launch and reorder is the reason it ranks first for this fit.

  • Tablet page lists wet and dry granulation; round, oval, caplet and custom shapes; chewable, effervescent, multilayer and bilayer formats; film, sugar, enteric and taste-masking coatings; bottle, blister and strip packs; hardness, friability, disintegration, dissolution and content uniformity tests.
  • Company states 45+ years since 1980, a US team in Exton, PA, and its own 350,000 sq ft cGMP, FDA-registered facility. FDA registration is not FDA approval.
  • States 1.2M+ units per day across operations and about six lines per dosage format. This is not reserved or format-dedicated capacity.
  • Lists cGMP, FDA Registered, Halal, ISO 17025, NSF, ISO 9001, USDA Organic and Kosher. ISO 17025 covers laboratory competence, not product certification; confirm current certificates and SKU scope.
  • Ready-to-ship catalog: 0 MOQ subject to SKU availability. Custom tablets: 2,000 units/SKU stated, 4 to 6 weeks after formula, label and pack approval.
  • Rush 2 to 3 weeks where accepted; custom formulation is a 4 to 8 week development phase. Net 30 up to Net 60 for credit-approved buyers; 24/7 phone support stated. Cites Reclaime and Fleava as client examples, with no published results.

Confirm before ordering: Confirm whether 2,000 means tablets or finished packs (the page also shows a 5K badge), plus feasibility of your exact format, material and coating.

#2

Vitaquest

Effervescent, ODT and particle-engineering development

Why it made the list: It runs a dedicated effervescent program covering acid and bicarbonate formulas, humidity control, direct compression, disintegration and sensory testing, and desiccated HDPE vials, tubes, sachets and cartons.

  • FAQ: concept to prototype typically under one month; initial manufacturing cycle 3 to 4 months.
  • Tablet page lists chewable, ODT and effervescent formats, sustained-release, enteric and film coatings, granulation, and bottle, blister and tube packaging.
  • MOQ: not verified.

Confirm before ordering: Get prototype and manufacturing clocks quoted separately, with SKU test criteria in writing.

#3

Makers Nutrition

Bilayer, coatings and custom tablet presentation

Why it made the list: It names bi-layer, time-release, sublingual and chewable tablets; film, sugar, enteric and color coatings; round, caplet, oval and geometric shapes with imprinting; plus label design, bottles, boxed blisters, pouches and fulfillment.

  • Advertises 4 weeks as fastest turnaround. A project timeline is not verified.
  • Tablet MOQ listed as 'Call Us': not verified. A separate 500-unit stock offer does not set a custom tablet minimum.

Confirm before ordering: Confirm layer adhesion and release protocol, tooling fees and a dated timeline.

#4

F.A.M.E. Health Labs

Published stock-to-custom tablet tiers

Why it made the list: It publishes separate stock and custom tiers and states tablets are pressed, bottled and tested in Cedartown, GA, with HDPE, PET or glass bottles, 30 to 180 common counts, lid, seal and label review, and a CoA.

  • Stock formulas from 500 units advertised; a catalog section says 1,000. Custom from 2,500.
  • Stock under 30k: 6 to 8 weeks after formula approval. Custom: 8 to 12 weeks total. Samples: one week in body text versus 3 to 6 weeks in the FAQ.
  • Lists enteric and sustained-release options and chewables backed by a flavor lab. Stock is made to order, not warehouse inventory.

Confirm before ordering: Confirm the stock minimum, the sample clock, and whether accredited third-party CoA testing costs extra and what it covers.

#5

Robinson Pharma

Coating choices and chewable formulation

Why it made the list: It states custom formulation, shapes, colors and sizes, aqueous clear, color and enteric coatings, and chewable and flavor formulation, so appearance and palatability can be scoped with one partner.

  • Tablet MOQ and numeric SKU lead time: not verified.

Confirm before ordering: Confirm the actual process, dietary restrictions, release criteria, and coating and bottling minimums.

#6

SMP Nutra

A public custom-tablet piece-count benchmark

Why it made the list: Its FAQ gives custom capsule and tablet minimums both in pieces and in bottles, which helps you size quantities before asking for a press quote.

  • Custom minimum: 150,000 to 300,000 pieces or 2,500 to 5,000 bottles. These ranges depend on count per bottle and are not interchangeable.
  • New customers 8 to 10 weeks after label receipt; reorders 6 to 8 weeks. These are general, not tablet-specific.
  • Coating, bilayer and effervescent capability: not verified from the FAQ.

Confirm before ordering: Confirm who compresses the tablets and where, the test panel, and count per SKU.

04

Compression, coatings and tablet formats

Compression route

Direct compression saves wetting and drying steps when the blend flows and compresses evenly. High-load blends often fail at it. Wet granulation improves flow and uniformity but adds moisture, heat and cost. Dry granulation suits some formulas that dislike water.

Excipients

Binders, disintegrants and lubricants make a tablet hold together and break apart on time. Review each for compatibility and label impact instead of chasing an "excipient-free" claim.

Coatings

Film coats improve look, taste and moisture protection. Enteric coats delay release and require acid-stage validation. Sugar coats add weight, size and process steps, and complicate sugar-free positioning.

Special formats

Chewables balance flavor and grit against hardness. Effervescent tablets need humidity and water-activity control, tight seals, tubes and clear dissolving directions. Bilayers need checked layer weights and adhesion to avoid delamination.

05

Quality testing and swallowability

Size is not dose

Core mass in mg includes excipients, so it is not the active dose. The same weight can press into different sizes. Length, thickness, shape, surface and edges decide how easy a tablet is to swallow, and no single mm cutoff applies. Do not tell customers to crush or split scored, enteric or extended-release tablets without validated directions.

What to test

Hardness (crushing force), friability (weight loss on tumbling), disintegration and dissolution are four separate checks with product-specific limits. Add identity, potency, micro, heavy metals, blend and content uniformity, weight, thickness, coating integrity and pack stability. No test here implies FDA approval or better absorption.

06

Tablet spec brief tool

Enter rough numbers to get tablet counts, batch mass and the questions to send each manufacturer. This is arithmetic, not dose advice. It cannot tell you whether a blend compresses, a tablet is easy to swallow, or an MOQ fits. The 3% gain is illustrative, not a coating target; sugar coats gain far more.

YOUR BRIEF

  • Tablet type: Standard. Process: Manufacturer recommendation. Shape: Round. Coating: film.
  • Tablet count: 120,000 pieces (60 per bottle x 2000 bottles).
  • Theoretical core mass: 90 kg.
  • At 3% illustrative gain: 92.7 kg coated, 772.5 mg per finished tablet.
  • Totals exclude waste, QC samples and overages.
  • Ask: Which disintegration method and limit apply to this SKU?
  • Ask: Which process do you propose, and what trial data supports it?
  • Ask: What coating weight gain do you target, and what does the film do here?
  • Ask: Which tests release this SKU (identity, potency, micro, heavy metals, content uniformity, weight, thickness, hardness, friability, disintegration or dissolution)?
  • Ask: What is the minimum per SKU in pieces and in finished packs, and which stages does the timeline clock cover?

07

FAQ and method

What is the difference between a private label and a custom tablet MOQ?

Private label (also called white label) means putting your label on an existing formula, so the minimum often relates to finished bottles. Custom formulation means a new blend and run, and minimums are usually set per SKU in tablets or kilograms. Ask for both numbers in pieces and in packs.

Direct compression or wet granulation: which should I ask for?

Direct compression skips wetting and drying but needs a blend that flows, compresses and stays uniform. Wet granulation can fix poor flow at the cost of moisture, heat and extra steps. Let the manufacturer propose a route backed by trial data.

Film coating or enteric coating?

Film coating handles appearance, taste masking and a moisture barrier. Enteric coating delays release past the stomach and needs an acid-stage and release test. Neither makes a tablet extended release.

Chewable or effervescent tablet?

Chewables trade taste and grit against hardness. Effervescent tablets react acid with bicarbonate, need low humidity and sealed tubes, and are dissolved in water, not swallowed whole.

Does a bilayer tablet give controlled release?

Not automatically. Two layers can separate incompatible ingredients. Any release claim needs its own formulation and testing.

Which tests and timeline should a quote show?

Hardness, friability, disintegration and dissolution are separate endpoints with product-specific methods. Add identity, potency, micro, heavy metals and content uniformity. The timeline should name what the clock covers: sampling, ingredients, granulation, coating, QA and packaging.
